Three police officers killed in armed attack on Ebonya police station
It has been confirmed that three Nigerian police officers have died following the attack by armed men.
They died after a militant attack at the Onueke police station in the Ezza local government area in the southern state of Ebony.
Two other officers were reportedly shot and wounded in the Friday night attack.
The dead were identified as two inspectors and a sergeant.
The attackers also reportedly seized two AK-47 assault rifles from the police station.
Lovet Oda, a state police spokesman who confirmed the incident, said the bodies of the killed officers were turned over to the morgue while the two wounded were being treated.
He said that the command began a search for the militants and urged anyone with useful information that could lead to the arrest of thugs to contact the command.
“Yes, three police officers were killed in the attack,” Oda said.
“We do not yet know the identity of the attackers; and we ask the general public to provide information to the police in order to track down the perpetrators of this heinous crime. “
In response, Stanley Okoroomega, Ebonyi’s Commissioner for Homeland Security, said the government was saddened by the incident.
