Tinubu Reacts to Sanwo-Olu’s Offer to Cancel Pensions to Former Governors and MPs

Former Lagos Governor Bola Tinubu described Governor Babajide Sanvo-Olu’s move to abolish public office (2007 pension law) as “brave and courageous,” Igbere TV reported.

The law provides for the payment of pensions and other rights to former governors and their deputies.

Mr Sanwo-Olu announced his intention to the State House of Assembly on Tuesday during the presentation of the proposed budget for 2021 of $ 1.155 trillion.

On Twitter on Wednesday, Tinubu expressed support for the governor’s plan and congratulated him on the budget proposal.

Congratulations to Governor Sanvo-Olu on the 2021 budget, which he aptly called the “Budget of Revived Hope.” This bold and entrepreneurial budget will empower our people and begin rebuilding Lagos State, ”wrote the APC leader.

“In particular, I would like to thank the governor for the plan to repeal the pension law, which offers pension packages to former governors and their deputies.

“This is a bold and courageous step of the Governor, and I support him with all my heart. I encourage all APC supporters to do the same. “

Sanwo-Olu told the assembly that he intends to repeal the law “in light of maintaining low government spending and demonstrating altruism in public service.”

Congratulations to Governor Sanvo-Olu on the 2021 budget, which he aptly dubbed “The Budget of Revived Hope.” This bold and proactive budget will empower our people and start rebuilding Lagos State. @jidesanwoolu @followlasg @lshaofficial @ekometa
