“On Sunday, January 3, 2021, gunmen laid siege to innocent travelers in Zankoro along the dangerous Birnin-Gwari-Kaduna highway, killing nine people (including three children) on their way to the ceremony in Doka, Birnin-Gwari province, LGA.
“In the same way, the bandits came out today, on Monday, January 4, 2021, in the same Zankoro, at about 9 am, indiscriminately shooting and kidnapping an unknown number of people and wounding six more people who are now undergoing treatment in Buruku.
“Over the past two weeks, the bandits terrorizing the residents of Birnin-Gvari, especially those traveling along the Birnin-Gvari-Funtua and Birnin-Gvari-Kaduna highways, have become very aggressive, continuing to ruthlessly kill and kidnap innocent civilians.
“Currently, over 40 people have been kidnapped by bandits between December 20, 2020 and Monday January 4, 2021; some of them were seriously ill.
“On Sunday 3 January 2021, nine innocent travelers were killed in Zankoro along the Birnin-Gvari-Kaduna highway. On Sunday 3 January 2021, a total of 11 people were abducted in the village of Dan Kungi.
“Therefore, BEPU is calling on the government to deploy an Immediate Response Team to launch offensive operations along the Birnin-Gwari, Kaduna and Birnin-Gwari Funtua Highways.”
