Ugwuani opens state water company board to spearhead government recovery programs

Governor Ifeani Ugwuani of Enugu State on Thursday inaugurated the newly formed Board of the State Water Corporation, headed by the first water consultant and first CEO of the company, Engrom. Opening the council, the Governor of Ugwuani, represented by his Deputy Honorable. Ms. Cecilia Ezeilo said that her administration has made a concerted effort since its inception to address the state’s water problem.

Some of these efforts, according to the deputy governor, include the initial injection of NN 100 million to increase water production in the Enugu metropolis, as well as NN 170 million used to maintain hydraulic structures in water systems. the Ajali and Oji rivers to increase the supply.

Ms Ezeilo, who said the Governor of Ugwuani’s administration has budgeted for the rehabilitation of the 9th mile water supply scheme as part of a solar-powered emergency shutdown program in 2021, said the state government recently awarded a $ 600 million contract to a project to improve post-completion drinking water supply programs from the Oji River, Ajali and the Iva Valley to the metropolis and enugu environs.

After revealing that the state government is targeting 40,000 cubic meters of water, the Deputy Governor highlighted other efforts by the current administration, which also include the launch of the AFD-funded third national urban water sector reform project. Adada Water Integration Scheme and rehabilitation of other water schemes, as well as cross-linking, drilling new wells with storage facilities throughout the state.

Ms Ezeilo also hinted that the state government has initiated processes to increase new Okwojo Ngwo wells in the Udi local government area of ​​the Enugu metropolitan area, a network of ten (10) solar-powered wells, and a recently conceived project that will help increase production and water distribution in and around the Enugu metropolis.

“These laudable ideas and innovations of our governor are something that we must not allow to be swept away. Therefore, there is a need for advice to preserve this legacy for the benefit of Ndi Enugu as it concerns the supply of drinking water.

“So I can on behalf of His Excellency, Governor, Honorable. Dr. Ifeani Ugwuani introduces you as a member of the board of the State Water Corporation Enugu to help drive these innovations to ensure proper water supply in the state, ”he said.

On behalf of the other members of the newly established council, Eng. Diyok expressed his gratitude to Governor Ugwuani for finding them worthy to serve the state in such a position and assured him that “we will do our best to meet the water needs and expectations of the people of Enugu State. supply ”.
