Umaha’s complaints about injustice in the NDP are ridiculous
Mr. Chika Nwoba until recently was the representative of Congress from all progressive supporters of the Ebony state. Tells EDWARD NNACHI why he resigned immediately. Governor David Umahi has, among other things, expressed an interest in joining the party.
Why did you leave the APC when the governor joined the party?
Well, I thank the party for considering me worthy to speak for you at the state level. When I was almost 27 years old, I was elected State Secretary for Advertising. It was 2018. Now I am 29. I take this opportunity to once again express my deep gratitude to the party and to those who worked very hard to get me elected. As you know, it is very difficult to sell armored personnel carriers in the South-East. The party is clearly hated and impartially hated in the South-East. To make matters worse, the presidential party refused to accompany the people of the Southeast in order to erase this sense of isolation from the minds of the Middle Southeast. Where to begin; are the one-sided appointments, the inability to appoint a person from the South-East in the country’s security architecture? positions in less important positions; exclusion of territory from infrastructural advantages; Excessive militarization of territory just to intimidate and exploit our people? What really pissed me off and what I publicly denounced was that the federal government wanted to take out a loan from China. When the benefit ratios were plotted for the country’s various geopolitical zones, the southeast was nil. A debt that we could take on in the repayment process? This is the greatest evil conspiracy against our people in recent times. It may shock you to learn that in the two and a half years that I worked as an advertising secretary, I never received a salary. I did everything I did with personal funding. What other party in power is doing this? A large number of party leaders in the state were on the governor’s salary when he was in the NDP before, during and after the 2019 general elections.
Are you sure?
I knew it all. I complained, but those concerned never listened. We have lost completely. Immediately after the Governor’s inauguration for a second term, he began appointing supporters of these APC supporters to leadership positions. What does this offer you? I resigned mainly because Governor David Umahi turned into an APC. I have always criticized his style of government. He is more like a politician-trader than a leader expected of him. I wrote to him several times to change some of his many anti-popular policies and programs in the name of democracy. He never did that. Leadership is different from everyday politics. Our people deserve good leadership, not politics, when it’s not time to play it. I’ve always advocated good leadership and everyone knows me for that at Ebonyi. So his going over to my party could be a big disservice for the anniversary. That is why I resigned from my position. I have resigned and this is irreversible.
Are you afraid that some of the interests opposing your departure from the Union of Right Forces after the Governor joined the party may haunt you?
You will remember that some villains working with the state government attacked me at my home in Abakaliki in March 2018, and I had machete cuts all over my body. I just left the government as head of its social media office at Government House. What was my violation? I said that I no longer work after learning that deception and propaganda are the oil that lubricates the administration. I am known for righteousness and justice; I will not go where lies and intimidation prevail over transparency. So I’m used to their drums. They have seriously injured me. I’m used to their attacks. The public must understand that there is a military government in the state of Ebony under the governor of Umaha. However, I am not afraid. He criticized the APC on several occasions. He should not attack me for the sole reason that I left APC, a party that he repeatedly called unprintable names along with its members in Ebonyi. I am not afraid of their attacks if there are plans for my attack a third time. I am used to this kind of walking.
Do you know why the NDP has yet to split the 2023 presidency southeast as requested by Umaha?
It’s funny to hear Umahi condemn the injustice in the NDP. Have you practiced justice and fairness as a governor? He was the president of the PDP; deputy governor and now governor for two terms. Did the APC appoint him as governor? What if you realized that PDP doesn’t mean good for the South-East? What a deceiving ride! He immediately took over as governor in 2015, what did he do? He appointed his older brother as the traditional ruler of the Uburu community, contrary to all established protocols. His people were complaining, but didn’t they care? What injustice could be worse than what he did? He named his closest younger brother Austin Umahi, the southeastern vice president of the NDP, against party-elected candidate Ali Odef from the same office as him. The guards were even sent to hit him at the polling station. As if that weren’t enough, he named his other brother, Mr. Maxwell Umahi, the vice president of the party in Ebony state. Was there fairness at work? Who’s cheating who here? The NDP has yet to share its presidential ticket across the board. Why is he so desperate that the party zone is his presidential ticket to the southeast in his favor?
Do you think he was desperate
Should we talk about the zoning of 2023 ballots in 2020? Did the armored personnel carrier, which joined, zoned its presidential ticket to the southeast? Will they ever do it? How does APC differ from PDP for the population of the South-East since 2015? Will they ever be able to do something different for the South East? Do they even know if the Southeast exists? Let me tell you that we know why he joined the PCA and this is not about claiming that the Nigerian presidency is zoned to the southeast. We are not children. He thinks that as governor the APC will be able to achieve a soft landing. He also fears that with the apparent anti-partisan activities he has committed, the NDP will disappoint him when he tries to appoint a successor in 2023. He dislikes the inhabitants of the South-East more than anyone else. He showed no such interest. As chairman of the Forum of Governors of the South East, what have you done differently to show that you think first of all about the South East? If anyone was to blame for the NDP, it was definitely not the governor of Umaha. He had to let another person do it. When you live in a greenhouse, you should never throw stones. Umahi lives in a greenhouse and does not know that he is throwing stones. He would have to wait a while to find out what the NDP will do with his presidential ticket. We are now faced with more important problems than the cry of the wolf, when there is no reason for it. I am not saying that Southeast should not get a presidential ticket for the 2023 elections; but time matters. He always had an interview with an APC. This is a pregnancy that couldn’t be covered. But I am glad that he finally left the NDP. He did nothing good for the party due to his unlikely antagonism with the party he created and with many others in the southeast. Now that he has officially defected to his dream party, could you please stop meddling in the NDP in Ebony State? Trying to ruin the party with famous surrogacy is not good for him. The party is too big for its childish machinations. He defected without a single NASS member from Ebonyi. He could not win over all the members of the National Assembly. What does this tell you, isn’t it on earth? He will not take everyone with him. The party at Ebonyi is intense and eventful. I was the advertising secretary for APC at Ebonyi. Ebonyi APC is a multi-part house. His arrival divided the party even more. I learned that some of them started going to court for injustice they had done. This is a person who complains about injustice. This is ridiculous. On an hourly basis, he loses his agents to the NDP. Why are they running away from him? maybe because he is a man of honesty and justice? He is righteous and diligent in serving leadership.
But the governor said there was injustice in the NDP.
Ask him for a definition of injustice. He himself is the architect of injustice. He must show us how to be an example of justice. To achieve justice, you must come with clean hands.
Now that you have left the APC, where are you going?
Since then I have joined the PDP. As a reminder, I used to be in PDP. I left the NDP because of the draconian style of government. Many have done the same. Since he joined APC, it is prudent to keep him at APC for the PDP. This is the answer to prayer. The NDP is a party based on democratic ideals. Unlike APC, which embodies every kind of evil you can think of. The PDP has its pitfalls, but it is much less poisonous. APC is a real and obvious poison. I am not saying this because I left the party for the sake of the NDP; I have always condemned APC’s unfair rule of Nigeria with the best of intentions, even when I was still its representative in Ebony State. That is why the only member of the NASS that the party has on the state, Mr. Chinedu Ogah, has sued me. I practice what I preach. The NDP in the Ekpelu district of the Ikvo metropolitan area, where I come from, received me loudly three days ago. I come to the party with many other members of the Union of Right Forces, including the chairman of the party in Ekpelu, Mr. Sunday Eze. This is going home. I’m not weird for the PDP. Until my father’s death in 2008, he was a prominent leader of the NDP in Ekpelu. He did a lot of good things for the party. He also donated one of his premises for the party. So, I am in the NDP and am a force to be reckoned with in the party, even as a 29-year-old man. During the 2019 presidential elections and the NASS, all polling stations in my area were taken over by APC. So this time it is for the PDP and there are no two ways to do it.
