Unidentified gunmen kidnap a doctor in Calabar

Dr. Vincent Uegbu Maduka, Consultant Cardiologist at Calabar University Hospital, was abducted by unidentified gunmen.

Dr. Maduka was abducted by gunmen around 9:00 pm on Thursday, December 11, near his home in Eta Agbo in Calabar.

Confirming the incident, the president of the Nigerian Medical Association, Dr. Innocent Abang, said the doctors had gone on indefinite strike to demand the release of their colleague.

“The state has a standing NMA ruling that doctors will go on indefinite strike after the kidnapping of a doctor to lobby for the immediate release of this victim.” He said.

Dr. Abang also said the associations were fed up with the constant kidnapping of doctors by thugs to ask for “damn money.”
