The US government applauded the recently concluded Anambra State Governorate elections.
This was contained in a statement Wednesday by the US mission in Nigeria.
In it, the US government stated that the poll result reflected the will of the people.
The statement reads: “The US government congratulates the citizens of the state of Anambra for the peaceful conduct of the government elections on November 6, the outcome of which reflects the will of the people.
“We acknowledge the enormous challenges faced by INEC and the personnel of the security forces on the ground and commend the efforts that have led to secure elections with a credible result.
“We also appreciate the commitment of our civil society partners to their relentless defense of voters and electoral transparency.
“We look forward to continued improvements in the electoral process as the country heads for government elections in Osun and Ekiti in 2022 and national elections in 2023.”
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared a former Central Bank governor and candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, the winner.
Soludo garnered 112,229 votes to defeat his closest rival, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Valentine Ozigbo who scored 53,807.
Senator Andy Uba of Congressional candidate All Progressives got a total of 43,285 votes to emerge in third place.
