We are in talks with China on COVID-19 vaccine – Jeffery Onyama (Minister)
The federal government says it has begun negotiations with the People’s Republic of China to gain access to COVID-19 vaccines for Nigeria.
This was announced yesterday in Abuja by Nigerian Foreign Minister Jeffery Oneama, informing reporters after a bilateral meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who was in Nigeria on a working visit.
Onyama recalled that China provided tremendous assistance to Nigeria in the midst of the pandemic, noting that the donation of protective gear has greatly affected the country in its fight against COVID-19.
The minister said that at the moment when countries are opening vaccines, and China was one of them, Nigeria has been engaging the country in the area of vaccine access.
“We got a lot of support from China in the field of personal protective equipment, which provided us very quickly and, of course, now there are breakthroughs in vaccines,
“China is also one of the countries that have been able to discover vaccines for COVID-19. So we are also working with China to help with access to vaccines for our people, ”he said.
“As for the development of relations, both countries are now considering the possibility of a direct flight from Nigeria to China.
“We want to establish a direct air link with China. We hope that very soon the Nigerian carrier will have regular flights to China in the not too distant future, ”he said.
