Why I supported the opening of the Lekki motorway exit – Segalink opens
Shogun Avosanya, a social media activist commonly known as Segalink, says he supported the opening of a toll collection point in Lekki.
PUNCH reports that four of the nine members of the Lagos State Judicial Commission investigating the alleged killing of #EndSARS protesters by soldiers at the Lecchi toll booth were charged with reporting by forensic experts hired to examine the scene for evidence.
Four members charged with a forensic report also rejected a request from Lekki Concession Company, the operator of Lekki’s toll collection point, to take over the facility, which has been closed since the investigation into the shooting began.
The four members who rejected the forensic report were two from civil society – Mr. Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa (San Francisco) and Ms. Patience Udoh; and two youth representatives on the panel, Rinu Odwala and Temitope Majekodunmi.
But the chairman of the commission, retired judge Doris Okuvobi, and four other commissioners agreed to the LCC’s request to return the toll booth.
The President was supported by Shogun Avosanya (better known as Segalink), Oluwatoyin Odusanya (Director of Civil Rights), DIG Taiwo Lakana (retired) (Police Representative) and Lucas Koyejo (from the National Human Rights Commission).
This, however, prompted some young people to accuse Segalink of sabotaging their efforts to end police brutality in the country.
In a series of tweets, a social media activist explained that it would be unfair to close the toll station because there was an accident there.
He tweeted: “I am not the enemy when you realize that it may be too late. Society may have upset any rationality in doing good or taking responsibility for the good of society. We are our problems and we refused to take responsibility. but we point our finger.
“It is useless to think logically when emotions are heard. Where in the world do you show feelings and injustice in order to achieve justice? Panel of Experts – Expert Commission or Panel of Judges? Did you waste your time reading the sentence? Did it cancel cases? This is the end?
“How many scientists will you find who are constantly under the microscope, not allowing you to work on your discoveries? Do you remember that the factory also employs people? We all use this path. Imagine blocking an entire street on charges of ongoing investigation without the need for a visit.
“There are always other ways to ensure justice without becoming the demons we fight. We don’t need to make life difficult for others to prove our point. Everyone has the right to justice, impartiality and the presumption of innocence, until proven otherwise. An investigation is underway, cases are ongoing.
“Imagine shutting down the police and military forces in the name of an ongoing investigation. For me, this is not in the spirit of justice. Read the sentence and if it is incorrect in terms of Law, Fairness and Integrity, we can revise it. So there are no such complaints yet.
“Who will you call when armed robbers go on strike following the arrest of those set up to intervene in connection with investigations, especially when they may be acting as part of their operation? Think deeply about those who make you think you have been betrayed. You have been used.
“Just think, if we agree with a clearly biased group trying to use the commission to settle an old LCC assessment, do you think the LCC will appeal this decision and still return its property, deciding that we have nothing else to do there?
“Where are the alleged victim’s files being made? Have you ever thought that some government agency will ever show up or abide by convening a tainted panel? I guess while it’s still legal. Justice must be fair for everyone. I have no personal interest in this. “
