Wike for PDP NWC – Let’s Curate the Anambra Congress and Governor Primaries
Rivers State Governor Niesom Ezenvo Vicke has advised the National Labor Committee of the People’s Democratic Party (NDP) to allow governors to oversee the holding of gubernatorial conventions and primaries in Anambra state.
He said winning the November gubernatorial elections in Anambra was critical for the NDP and that a concerted effort was needed to ensure that no one was alienated from the processes leading up to the election of the party’s standard bearer.
The Governor of Rivers State made the remark when addressing NDP leaders in the southeast during a meeting held in Enugu on Monday to reconcile Anambra stakeholders ahead of the November elections.
He explained that he had been to Enugu, the capital of Enugu State, to express his condolences to Governor Lawrence Ifeani Ugwuani and former Senate Vice President Dr. Ike Ekeremad in connection with the death of former State Transport Commissioner Mathias Equeremadu, but was informed of the meeting by the Governor of the state, who also offered to stop and talk with the delegates at the Government House.
Governor Wieck said the November elections provide the NDP with a rare opportunity to reclaim Anambra state and strengthen the party’s position in the geopolitical zone in the southeast. The governor said that for this, people must be willing to make sacrifices in the common interest of the NDP.
“We are interested in the party, not the group, and put everything aside. Anambra was the state of the PDP, but due to disputes and non-compliance, this is what caused the PDP to lose Anambra. Only two states in the southeast – Enugu and Abia – are now NDP. If we add Anambra, it will be a good incentive for us. “
He warned that if the NDP fails to take over Anambra state, it does not bode well for the party, especially in the southeast. To this end, he called on the National Working Committee of the party to allow governors to control both the holding of the conventions and the administration of the primaries in Anambra.
“It should be transparent. Whether it’s the Congresses or the primaries themselves, the governors will be responsible for coming and running the elections. ”
He said the commitment to the proposal that NDP state governors be allowed to observe congresses and primaries would serve as a test case for determining whether the National Working Committee is serious about the NDP’s election victory in Anambra.
Governor Wieck specifically tasked PDP National Organizational Secretary Colonel Austin Akobund (rtd) attending the meeting to ensure that the processes leading up to the PDP candidate election in Anambra are carried out properly. the confidence that the party understands everyone well.
“You have a fundamental role. Fortunately, you are from the southeast, tell him, look if we lose Anambra, we have problems in the southeast. And you know that the APC is gaining strength to fight in Anambra State. So let’s work together. “
The Governor of Rivers State assured delegates that the NDP governors will support the party in Anambra State to win the November elections. According to him: “We are all ready to provide such support to Anambra in order to win these elections.”
Governor Wyck has asked those in court to drop the case in the interests of the NDP. He also called on the warring factions in Anambra State to reconcile and work in unison.
“In the name of God, everyone keeps their ego, part of the problem is the ego, we work as a team and provide PDP.”
The meeting was attended by Governor Lawrence Ifeani Ugwuani; former Senate President and Federal Secretary of the Federal Government, Anim Pius Anyim; former Minister for Women and Social Affairs Ayom Josephine Anenich; other 2019 NDP presidential candidates, Peter Obi; former Governor of Ebony; Sam Egwu; former Governor of Imo State, Emeka Ihedioha.
