A 35-year-old woman, Ms Comfort Innocent, confessed to trafficking teenagers from Nigeria to Italy through the prostitution crisis in Libya.
Comfort, who was arrested by police in Ogun state, said her husband, who lived in Italy, took the trafficked girls away.
He added that he has been working in the industry for a long time.
The suspect was arrested on December 22 in connection with the abduction and trafficking of two underage girls.
His arrest follows reports from Oluwaseun Aduratola and Sakirat Fasasi, residents of Siune city in the local government of Obafemi Ovoda, who told investigators at Ovode Egba police station that the suspect had abducted their daughters: Blessing of Aduratola, 15, and Hasisat Fasasi, 16.
Mothers complained that the suspect was on the verge of taking their daughters to Italy via Libya, where they were forced into prostitution.
Police officer of the Gadfly Egba Department Matthew Ediae led a detective team to arrest the suspect.
Police spokesman Abimbola Oyemi, who said this in his statement, said the suspect admitted during interrogation that he is a trafficker who has worked in the industry for a long time.
Abimbola, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), quoted the suspect as saying that her husband, who lives in Italy, accepts the girls while she stays in Nigeria, recruits the girls and sends them to Italy along the Libya route.
Said The two suspected kidnapping girls were taken to Kaduna State from where they will be transported to Libya, adding that they were rescued by police in Kaduna State.
Police Commissioner Edward Ajogun ordered the transfer of the suspect to the State Department of Investigation and Intelligence’s Anti-Trafficking and Child Labor Section for further investigation.
