young people are planning a counter protest at the toll station in Lecchi

The young people announced their intention to organize a protest meeting at the toll station in Lecchi on Saturday 13 February.

This came a few hours after some young people took to Twitter to protest the opening of a toll station in Lekki.

PUNCH said the Lagos State Judicial Commission of Inquiry, investigating the alleged killing of #EndSARS protesters by soldiers at the Lecchi toll booth, has approved the opening of the toll booth on Saturday.

However, four of the nine members of the jury criticized the report of forensic experts hired to examine the scene for clues.

The counter-demonstration, which is popular on Twitter, such as #DefendLagos and #DemNoBornYourPapaWell, is aimed at protesting the #OccupyLekkiTollGate protesters.

A counter-rally poster posted on social media revealed that it will take place at the same location and at the same time as the #OccupyLekkiTollGate protesters had planned.

“We are protecting what the destroyers left behind by rebuilding Lagos. Join the Defend Lagos demonstration at the Lecchi toll booth, ”a poster showing buildings and other structures destroyed during the violence that followed the #EndSARS protest in the state reads.

One of the organizers of the #DefendLagos protest, Olusoga Owoeye @olusogaowoeye, said: “Show your love for our Lagos. Make sure your friends and neighbors are there. Take part in the DefendLagos rally at the Lekki toll station on February 13th. We will not surrender our city to criminals and rebels. Lagos is our pride. “

Another promoter, @salamhunters, said, “We will defend and protect our Lagos from marauders and arsonists.”

“We say no to all the dullards and opportunists who are plotting evil in Lagos,” added @ Adetade6.

@Kazeem_AS complained that he has not yet recovered from the damage caused by the latest protest.

“I have to be there to protect Lagos. I was born in Lagos. Although I am from Ondo State, I have lived in Lagos all my life. I will no longer allow any non-believer to destroy Lagos, this will never happen, ”said Olumide Akin @holumyne.

Iyalaya @ lollylarry1 remarked, “No one has a monopoly on insanity. The destruction of Lagos by crazy sites is enough. This time we will still do it #DefendLagos and #DemNoBornYourPapaWell. “

A bloody confrontation looms

Some tweets express fears that the protests could lead to a bloody confrontation at the Lecca toll station, calling for state and security interventions.

One of them, @AjayiWizeman, said: “I’m sure the #DefendLagos people won’t come on Saturday and they will be civilians. They will be wearing police, soldier and DSS uniforms along with the thugs. Dem is not suitable for thousands of people who will be #OccuppyLekkiTollGate Na, we have set the date and time! “

@sageugo added: “This is a story, they will pay some influencers on Twitter to trend #DefendLagos from today until February 13th and then on D-Day they will release the same thugs they used to destroy Lagos during the protest #ENDSARS because of the fight. bloody with protesters #OccuppyLekkiTollGate.

Koiki Olaseni said: “In the end, the police will ban all forms of protest to ensure peace.”

@drjollyseg commented that “@jidesanwoolu, it’s time to be proactive! If you’re not careful, there will be bloodshed and unnecessary deaths as a result of a possible standoff between the two groups. Do not cancel a possible capture again. thugs “.

Lagos Governor General Spokesman Gboega Akosile responded to a protest scheduled for Saturday February 13, 2020 against the reopening of the state’s Lecchi toll collection point.

Unhappy with the jury’s decision, some Nigerians on Twitter threatened to take the toll booth on Saturday to express their disappointment.

Responding to the planned protest, Akosile responded to a tweet with the hashtag #DontLetThemBringLagosDown: “No one will destroy our home state of Lagos! Their rights end where the rights of others begin. “

Lagos State witnessed the destruction of public and private property during the #EndSARS protest before and after alleged gunfire by soldiers at the Lecchi toll booth.
