Zamfara needs SARS agents, says Governor Bello Matavalla

Zamfara Governor Bello Matavalle said the state is in dire need of the recently disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

In recent weeks, Nigerians across the country have protested against the actions of the Nigerian Anti-Robbery Special Police Force (SARS).

According to the demonstrators, the police unit is engaged in the illegal detention and killing of innocent Nigerians.

This led to the IGP Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, disbanding the unit.

It appears that development has not gone well with Zamfara State Governor Bello Matavalle, who he says the disbanded SARS Special Force was vital to protect lives and property in the Zamfara state he controls.

He said this, referring to reporters who returned from a meeting of the governors of the North in Kaduna.

Bello Matavalle seized the opportunity and demanded that officers from the disbanded police unit be sent to Zamfara.

He said;

“We have witnessed tremendous development in peacebuilding in Zamfara State through the commitment, professional input and support of the Nigeria FSARS police.

“I will personally seek a hearing with the president on this matter. We need FSARS or its counterpart in Zamfara State because we have seen their positive impact despite the alleged excesses. “
